dmj's graphics tips: liquid textures

This is an easy way to turn an ordinary texture into a slick liquid texture.
To begin with, we need a texture. Here's one I created with KPT Texture Explorer. I had to subsample a KPT texture to get this; then I edge embossed it.

All you have to do to make this into a liquid texture is apply the KPT Vortex Tiling filter, using the Pinch Vortex option, multiple times, moving the center and optionally changing the intensity each time you apply it.
To the texture above, I applied the Pinch Vortex five times, each with intensity 50, but moving the center to the bottom left, top left, top right, bottom right, and bottom left corners.

The smoothness of the texture comes from the interpolation the Vortex Tiling filter.
