dmj's graphics tips: vortex blur

Here's another Nutty Blur for you to try. I call this one a "Vortex Blur", since it uses KPT 3's Vortex Tiling filter.
Start with a nice image. Photos work well. I'll use this picture (obviously not a photo, but suitable nonetheless):


Mask off a circular area in the center of your picture. (Well, it doesn't have to be in the center, just as long as it's circular.) Then open KPT's Vortex Tiling filter, select "Pinch Vortex" as the mode, and set the vortex radius to 50. Click OK, and you should get something like this:


Now here's the trick: immediately apply the filter again. This will mostly undo the effect, but with some slight deviation at the edges of the circle:


This looks excellent at higher resolutions. It only works properly if the vortex radius is set to 50, although other settings can produce interesting results.
